I'm making a difference this Good Friday Appeal, and I need your support.
Our daughter Tabby is only six years old, but she has already shown more courage than most adults will ever be asked to find. Recently, she underwent major skull surgery to help expand her skull, and she is now six weeks post-operative and recovering incredibly well. As part of that recovery, she still has skull distractors coming through the skin at the top of her head, and each morning we have been turning screws to gradually help expand her skull.
This journey began much earlier in Tabby’s life. Because of a tectal plate glioma, she developed hydrocephalus and had a shunt placed when she was just ten weeks old. Since then, she has faced more than any child should have to. Over this recent period, she has missed school, missed her friends, and missed so many of the things she loves, including sport, activities, and even simple family time at the beach.
What has amazed us most is the way she has handled it all. Tabby has been brave, positive, and full of spirit throughout. She has truly been a little warrior.
As a family, we are incredibly grateful for the care, compassion, and expertise we have received from the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne. The support from the team there has meant so much to us, and Tabby herself wanted to find a way to give something back and celebrate the hospital that has cared for her so well.
So Tabby came up with Tabby’s Trekkers. Her goal is to walk or run at least 2 km every day for 6 months to raise money for the Good Friday Appeal and support the Royal Children’s Hospital. On days when she is not able to do it herself, including surgery or recovery days, someone in our family will complete the distance for her.
We are tracking her walks on Strava, and every donation, no matter the size, will help us turn her determination into something that gives back to other children and families who need the same extraordinary care.
