Good Friday Appeal 2024

I have this page to help the amazing doctors and nurses care for the children

I have chosen to raise money for Good Friday appeal as the royal melbourne hospital did an amazing job at saving my little brothers life and my partners life, they have also been doing a great job getting to the bottom of one of my nieces health issues. I know a lot of kids that have had to get treated at the royal children’s Melbourne hospital, and I know that there have been millions and millions more that will need the services. I want to help make a difference for all children there now and for the future.

I‘ve created this page because I want to make a difference to the lives of sick kids.

The Good Friday Appeal relies on the support of the community to raise funds to ensure that The Royal Children's Hospital is able to continue to provide world class care to patients and their families. From 2022 to 2023 at The Royal Children's Hospital: 90,260 patients presented to the Emergency Department, 50,345 children and young people were admitted to a ward, 407,563 children and young people attended an outpatient appointment, and 14,963 patients underwent surgery. So please help by giving whatever you are able to this fundraiser and help spread the word by sharing this page with your friends, family and networks. Thank you for your generosity, it means a lot!

When my youngest son was born 30 yrs ago, he was a happy baby but rarely slept! In fact he turned me off wanting any more babies lol…. He fed normal but rarely settled!!!
I was always going to the doctor as he had a constant runny nose and unwell!!!
Doctors continually told me I’m an over protective mum, I know my child and I knew something was wrong!!!
It wasn’t until he turned 4 that we had another GP appointment and our regular GP was on leave, we had a fill in GP. She checked him over and asked me if we have ever had a heart problem, long story short she detected a murmur! We were then sent to St. John’s for further investigation!
That’s when they found a hole in his heart, which explains why he was the way he was!!
Within a month we had an appointment at the Royal children’s hospital in Melbourne where they went through the process of explaining the procedure to be performed!
I asked all sorts of questions and wanted to know what the long term prognosis was!!!
They could not answer that question until after surgery!!
Once the procedure was completed and he was monitored for a few days, they did some follow up testing and advised me that he would have a leaking mitral valve for the remainder of his life!!!
To this day I appreciate all the support and care that we received from the Royal Children’s hospital, I may not have had my baby with me as the right side of his heart is slightly damaged and enlarged from doing all the work!!!!

They treated us so well and explained everything to me as a mother, advised me on what to expect for coming mths and that we had to keep regular cardiology appointments and paediatric appointments!!! I was offered to stay at the Ronald McDonald house but we were lucky enough to have family who lived ten mins from the hospital so we chose to stay there to give other families that lived further away the accommodation!!!
I honestly could not fault the royal childrens hospital on the before during and after care!!!!
